New Sunday School

The idea is to have a VBS type of Sunday School where groups of children depending upon their age (K4 thru 4th Grade) work around to three different areas. The Sunday School time will be from 9:30 to 10:30. There will also be a time from 9:00 to 9:30 where children can be dropped off for play time. The children will rotate between the following areas:

  1. Lesson Area - This will be a area to teach a prepared lesson from the Middler book. This lesson will be tailored to each group depending upon age. This area will have several teaching aids such as a white board wall, maps, and TV & VCR. This area will be carpeted and have a big circle in the middle so that the children have to sit in the circle during lesson time. This area can also be used in the opening play time to show movies and to watch videos.
  2. Craft Area - This area will be an area to work on a craft with each group. The craft should be tailored to fit the children's age and time allowed for the craft. This area will be tile so that it can easily be cleaned up after Sunday School is done. There will be a small storage area nearby to store craft supplies.
  3. Snack & Memorization Area - This area will be one big room but will be part carpet and part tile. The snack area will be tile and will have a refrigerator, countertop and sink in one corner. This area will also have some tables to stand at while eating snacks. Children are encouraged to keep snacks on the tile area and rest rooms are also nearby. The Memorization area will be carpeted with a game type of carpet. This will have memorization tools available and the children will be taught a Bible verse that relates to their Lesson but appropriate to their age. This area can also be used as a play area during open time.

Times (There will be a red cop light in each room indicating when it is time to switch rooms)

9:00 am to 9:30 am - Open play time

9:30 am to 9:48 am - First area for each group.

9:50 am to 10:08 am - Second area for each group.

10:10 am to 10:28 am - Third area for each group.

Each child and parent will get a matching badge at entry point. This badge will need to be shown at the pickup point to match children back up with parents. Once a child and parent relationship is known a sign in and sign out sheet will be available at the entry and pickup areas. This area will be locked during times when it is not in use.

Teacher obligations:

There will be three main teachers and three helpers. Each teacher will rotate areas on a monthly basis. For example the teacher in the lesson area will prepare one lesson but tailor that lesson for each age group. This teacher will be responsible for all the material need for that lesson. The craft teacher is responsible for a craft that goes along with the lesson and will be responsible for all material need for the craft for each age group. The memorization teacher will be responsible for getting with the lesson teacher to pick an appropriate verse and to schedule snacks. They will also tailor the verse to the different age groups. The helpers will stay with the groups to assist teachers and control children. The helpers will also be responsible for attendance, distributing snacks at snack time, and turning on and off the cop light for changing rooms.
